Description: En corrélation avec le plans des périmètres drainés et le plan schématique des collecteurs de drainage, les drains agricoles permettent de visualiser la structure et la typologie des épis de drainage. La teneur élevée en limons fins et en argiles du sous-sol genevois, ainsi que la présence de moraine à faible profondeur expliquent la forte proportion de terres faisant l'objet d'un drainage agricole, dans le but de prévenir l'asphyxie et la pourriture racinaire des plantes. Le drainage étant indispensable pour permettre une production agricole de qualité et rentable au plan économique, un fonctionnement optimal des réseaux constitue dès lors une condition indispensable au maintien dans notre canton d'une agriculture productive et compétitive.
Sur une surface agricole totale de près de 12'000 ha, on recense environ 4'400 ha drainés.
